Rembrandt and Side Lighting

As we move further into the study of using studio lights, two great tools are Rembrandt lighting and Side lighting.

Rembrandt

Rembrandt lighting is a side (short) lighting technique that has a specific marker.  If it is done correctly, there will be a triangle on one of the cheeks.

This will require you to set your lights CORRECTLY and to METER!

Side (Short) Lighting

Picture

Short lighting is also known as side lighting.  This is something you learned in your first class... and the same principles apply.  You will probably want to you only one light for a super dramatic lighting...  but you can use 2 and just turn your fill light down (A LOT).  Don't be afraid to experiment.

Split Lighting

Split lighting only lights half of the face as opposed to short lighting.  Use the links above to discover how to achieve this type of lighting.
